When the late Lana McCandless said, "I've been thinking", you'd better watch out - she had an idea and would stop at nothing to accomplish it. Luckily for her, neighbor and good friend, Sylvia Gray, had the same idea. Out of their friendship and love of Culleoka, the idea of a book was born. Their goal was to preserve the colorful history of Culleoka and to sponsor a scholarship at Culleoka High School. They had no idea that their dream would be so successful.
To help ensure the scholarship's future, the Culleoka Alumni Scholarship Association (CASA) was formed. Chartered in 2009, the primary purpose is to provide financial assistance to Culleoka Unit School graduating seniors for continued education. The association is governed by a Board of Directors. On December 29th, 2009 the association received its federal tax exempt status. All contributions are tax deductible.
We are proud that the amount of the scholarship awarded has increased from $500 in 2007 to $2500 in 2017. We credit much of its growth to the significant number of contributions by way of honorarium and memorial donations. The annual fundraisers are and will continue to be an important part of the success. We are grateful for all who have supported CASA and our mission of promoting higher education to our community's graduates.
